Iran considering plot to assassinate US ambassador to South Africa is Bullshit

Israel continues to spread lies, in direct coordination with its American ally, with the aim of creating confusion and further international conflict. Israel does not know calm and it is recruiting public opinion through the Zionist lobby and the various intelligence arms that work in both the countries of the West and the East to achieve Israel’s goals and ambitions.

The last naive claim produced by Israeli intelligence, adopted by US intelligence and published on Sunday by the Politico news site was about accusing Iran of plotting to assassinate Ambassador “Lana Marks”, an old Jewish woman who works as a handbag designer in South Florida, due to her closeness to US President Donald Trump and as an avenge of the killing of top senior Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.

In a quick comment on the American allegation about Iran’s planning to assassinate Ambassador Marcus,
Ms. Trita Parsi, PhD, Executive Vice President at the Quincy Institute said:

“I wanted to share some quick thoughts and analysis on Politico’s breaking news claiming that Tehran is planning to assassinate the US ambassador to South Africa.

This story is likely another false leak by the Trump White House, potentially aimed at conditioning the American public for an October surprise with Iran.”

She added: “It is a bizarre story and its timing is a bit suspicious. Certainly, Iran has a history of extraterritorial assassinations. And few doubt that Iran is done avenging Qassem Soleimani, who Trump ordered killed earlier this year.”

But assassinating a largely irrelevant American ambassador – who only got the job due to her support for Donald Trump – in a state friendly to Iran makes little sense. It’s difficult to imagine anyone within the Iranian elite accepting that as appropriate retaliation for the killing of Soleimani, Iran’s foremost general.

South Africa has close and warm relations with Iran. It is a leader within the Non-Aligned Movement. An assassination there would put considerable strain on Pretoria-Tehran relations at a time when Iran can’t afford to get more isolated.

Nor is it clear what Iran would achieve with such an assassination except turning the entire international community against it and pushing it to side with the Trump administration while providing the hawks in the Trump administration a casus belli.

The U.S. elections are only weeks away and we know that the Trump White House has interfered extensively in the work of the intelligence community. Just last week, it was revealed that intelligence officers had been pushed to claim that China and Iran are engaged in election interference in order to draw attention away from the findings regarding Russian interference in favor of Trump.

Few details are known about this developing story, but based on what has been reported, some skepticism seems warranted.
