Palestine at the ONNA Art Exhibition in Vienna

Auf Deutsch

I had wonderful evening at the opening of ONNA art exhibition in Vienna. Several artists women from Asian and African background among them Palestine have presented their works of art that reflect their nature of being women.

The exhibition was arranged perfectly by Austrian artist Sylvia Kummer in coordination with Professor of art Alfred Grasille.

Sharing 8 pictures of my artistic work from the occupied Palestine with a very diverse and high level audience among them a representative of the 16th district chief Franz Brokob at ONNA exhibition was an experience of great value!

I enormously enjoyed the the opening of the exhibition as well the conversations with the visitors and fellow artists from Austria, Japan, China, Palestine, Uganda, Iran and Bangladesh. I already got invited to exhibit my work from Palestine at other galleries and an exhibition in Austria.

Most importantly, the exhibition was very organized, and the opening was interesting. Vivvien Lee and Johann Sebastian Bach played a great musical link.

Palestine has presented 8 artistic pictures show the inhuman face of the Israeli occupation in Palestine.

Palestine statement to the exhibition
Dear artists, dear guests,

Good evening everyone.

My name is Kawther Salam. In my home, the word kawther means pure water. And Salam stands for “peace”.

I am a Palestinian artist – born in Hebron and meanwhile I live in Austria since 19 years.

It is my pleasure to be able to participate with a contribution to this exhibition today. Many thanks in this connection – Dip. Prof. Sylvia Kummer and Prof. Alfred Graselli for this valuable and wonderful art exhibition. And many thanks to all the artists participating in the exhibition.

Art is a form of expression in which the artist gives his feelings space. Love, grief, beauty, events and the talent of the artist are the basis for his artistic creation and the origin of his creativity.

In this exhibition I would like to share with you five photos showing the story and the history of a nation in the course of 71 years of living under the occupation.

In short, my experience in love and pain, the writing of romantic poetry, photography and my journalistic work in conflict have made me an artist who combines the art of photography with the art of poetry.

Love was born with me, and my father was my teacher in love, peace of art.

The deep pain in my homeland Palestine has brought me to the beautiful Vienna.

Vienna is the city of art and artists, music and musicians, science and scientists, civilization, democracy, human rights, love, peace and tolerance.

In Palestine, I photographed the dead children who were shot with sharp bullets. I photographed the women giving birth on the open streets in front of the soldiers, and I photographed the patients who died in ambulances on the border in front of the soldiers.

Today I photograph roses, birds, butterflies – in general – the nature and the beauty of the city in Vienna.

I write a romantic love poem daily. I combine art and romance. I also photograph the Viennese politicians in the Hofburg, the ministries, the United Nations and other international organizations.

My mother was also an artist – at home. The kitchen was the kingdom of her art. She also sewed beautiful clothes. Today I am wearing a dress sewn by my mother hand.

My mother wore the same dress 85 years ago, when she was still a young woman. She wore a dress with long sleeves. But today I do not wear long sleeves because I feel a pleasant warmth in your company. This heat is enough for me.

My father was also an artist. He had made the beautiful birds sing on the trees. He was a farmer who did not study at the university, but he transformed the desert into green gardens with roses, trees, and birds.

I am pleased to participate in the ONNA exhibition and see the walls speak in all the languages of art.

I wish you a nice evening, a successful exhibition and good luck for all the artists.

Thank you very much.
