Sleeping Beauty - Ballet in Vienna 25th Film Festival

DSC_8898 (2)_edited-2August 2 2015 – Over twenty thousand sat and crowded at Vienna City Hall in order to watch the interesting ballet dance “Sleeping Beauty” as part of Vienna 25th Film Festival which held yearly in Summer.

“Sleeping Beauty” choreography: Rudolf Nureyev nach Marius Petipa; Aurélie Dupont, Manuel Legris. Orchestra: Orchestre de L’Opéra National de Paris.

“Sleeping Beauty” remains as the famous Russian Ballet Rudolf Nureyev often called it the ballets of ballets. It is the most accomplished and the most brilliant as well as one of the most spectacular of the XIXth century and the most representative of the “noble” style of the classical language. A key work in Nureyev’s carreer – and the ultimate expression of Saint Petersburg’s classical style.

It is a ballet in a prologue and three acts, first performed in 1890. The music was composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (his opus 66).

The score was completed in 1889, and is the second of his three ballets. The original scenario was conceived by Ivan Vsevolozhsky, and is based on Charles Perrault’s La Belle au bois dormant. The choreographer of the original production was Marius Petipa.

In Vienna, the summer has a special feeling, smell, colour and joy: film festivals, Concerts, Opera, Dancing and Food. Yearly, the city of Vienna makes everything possible to have a special summer in the square before the City Hall, a special summer for all Austrians and the increasing number of guests from outside who will watch classic as well as modern musical highlights.

The 25th Film Festival in front of Vienna City Hall was started on 4 July and continues until 6 September 2015. With about 750,000 visitors, it has become the biggest cultural and culinary festival in Europe.

Every summer for the past 24 years, locals and international guests have been treated to a programme of world-class films shown on a giant video wall in front of Vienna City Hall. The 25th Film Festival on Rathausplatz is held from 4 July to 6 September this year.

Executive City Councilor Christian Oxonitsch, speaking on behalf of the Vienna City Government, has stressed that the city is proud to hold the largest event of this kind in Europe.

The free high-class films and the many stalls selling delicious food and drinks on Rathausplatz are known to be a hit with both locals and international guests in Vienna, attracting some 750,000 people every summer.
