Chancellor Werner Faymann said: “it is completely unacceptable that “time and again, people fleeing to Europe should die in such a horrifying way” . He declared this disaster a “disgrace for humanity”.
Faymann said: “We urgently need to find common European solutions in close cooperation with those countries and regions from which people are fleeing.”
He added: “We can no longer just turn a blind eye and both the EU and national governments are called upon to take immediate action. “Europe must now work together, and we will support every initiative that offers a solution to this problem.”
Faymann continued. This tragedy shows, yet again, that, in terms of its foreign policy, the EU must face the challenge of redoubling its efforts to find a peaceful solution for the crises in its immediate vicinity.
