President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin laid wreath at the Schwarzenberg square at the memorial of the Red Army (“Russian monument”). The monument commemorates the 1945 fallen soldiers of the Red Army in Austria.
Formal military ceremonies took place after the arrival of President Putin in the Schwarzenberg area. The guard of the Austrian Armed Forces was also present to pay tribute to the military heroes.
Around the Schwarzenberg square, hundreds of demonstrators pro and against Putin’s visit surrounded the area. On one side there were dozens raising the Russian’s flag and chanting: “Putin you are welcome in Austria”. On the other side there were hundreds chanting; “Putin go home you are not welcome in Austria”.
At noon, dozens of homosexuals were seen demonstrating at Heldenplatz in front of the Austria foreign ministry and against the Russians supposed violations of their “homosexual rights”.
According to the United Nations statement about 423 people have been killed between April 15 and June 20 in eastern Ukraine where the situation is rapidly deteriorating.
