Mag. Renate Brauner, Vice-Mayor and Vice Governor of Vienna delivers a speech at the opening session of the AACC

22.5.2014 AACC opening session
Statement Vice Mayor and Governor Mag. Renate Brauner
Excellencies,
Ambassadors,
Ladies and Gentlemen, distinguished guests!

On behalf of the City of Vienna, I have the honor and pleasure to congratulate the Austrian-Arab Chamber of Commerce most cordially to their 25th anniversary.

We meet in this beautiful banqueting hall of the Vienna City Hall, where tradition meets modern state-of-art technologies. A place that has been open for welcoming international guests ever since.
Vienna is especially pleased to welcome here, such a distinguished circle of valued guests, partners, and friends from both the Arab countries and Austria.

The 25 years of the AACC mark 25 very dynamic years for both Austria and the Arab World. The historic initiative of Bruno Kreisky in 1979 created new opportunities, which positioned Vienna closer to the Arab World than any other Western country at that time.

In the years that followed, many Austrian companies found soaring new markets in the Arab countries, realizing substantial projects – especially in the Gulf Region.

In turn, Arab investors have been appreciating solid and reliable business relationships with Austrian companies, along with a secure investment environment here in Austria.
The entry to the enlarged European Union through the central European location of Vienna offers a very direct access for Arab investors into Europe.

In addition, one of the fastest growing groups of tourists visiting Vienna each year is from the Arab world, currently roughly 153’000 (one hundred fifty three thousand) guests every year.
While in 2003 there were only 3 direct flights per week from Vienna to the Arab world, there are as many as 27 today – tendency rising.

The economical and political relationships grew close and remain this way until today.
They can be seen as model for intercultural relationship based on mutual trust, respect, and prosperity.
In a quarter of a century, the AACC has played a substantial role in building up and fostering
this relationship, for which we, the City of Vienna, would like to express our sincere thanks.

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Again, my sincere congratulations,
and I wish you successful and prosperous years to come!
