last Wednesday, unknown masked Palestinians opened fire at the office of the PA Minister of Islamic Endowments, Mahmoud al-Habash, who is known to be the right arm of Abbas. The masked men opened at al-Habash’s office in el-Bireh with heavy fire minutes after his arrival at that location.
Minister al-Habash is famous for his “Fatwas” (religious edicts) which serve the interests Abbas and the PA. Al-Habash’s faux pseudo-religious edicts have no foundation in the principles of Islam, they only serve the purpose of wrapping the “authority” of the PA in religious mumbo-jumbo.
Another deed of his ministry has been to censor the weekly religious advices delivered at mosques on Fridays. Before the intervention of this ministry, the advisers were free to say whatever they deemed correct before the prayers. Now, they are only allowed to give advice that serves the PA and are to avoid any mention of the israeli occupation.
In addition to his propagandist interventions in favor of the PA and the occupation, minister al-Habash is suspected of financial corruption. He refuses to declare the financial budget of his ministry before legal instances and the prime minister, yet he still receives full power from Abbas and sees himself above the law and beyond accountability.
Recently the Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah visited the ministry of Al-Habash at a time when he was supposed to be present in his office. The PM was surprised to not find the minister and a number of his staff doing on duty at their offices. Instead of accounting his absence and the absence of many of his employees, Mister Al-Habbas became angry because of the sudden visit of the PM and proffered threats to interfere in the continued support by Abbas for the PM.
