Judge Hassouna Tawfiq at the Egyptian Administrative Court ordered yesterday that the government must block all access to YouTube in Egypt for one month because of the deliberate hosting of the film about “the abuser Prophet Mohammad”, an anti-Muslim film titled “Innocence of Muslims”, despite a decision to stop the broadcast.
Lawyer Mohammed Hamid Salim, who filed the lawsuit in Cairo, alleged that the film constitutes a threat to Egypt’s security. The movie portrayed the prophet Mohammed as a religious fraud and a paedophile. The film caused widespread riots around the world. Over 50 people were shot to death during demos while clashing with the police in their countries.
YouTube’s parent company, Google, declined to remove the video from the website last year and ONLY restricted the access to it from Egypt, Libya, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, because the video broke only the laws of those countries.
On the other hand, the Cairo Criminal Court punished four Egyptians who were accused of storming the US Embassy in Cairo to one year in prison with suspension. The Egyptians were protesting against the broadcasting of the film and they stormed the US Embassy because the producer is an American national and at the same time an Egyptian from the Coptic religious community.
