European Justice Ministers Sign EAW Protocol In Vienna

On Thursday Sep. 20 2012, in a ceremony held at Vienna Hofburg Congress Centre, the European Ministers of Justice signed the Fourth Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition and Treaty and other additional protocols to the European Treaties.

The conventions and their protocols are part of the historical archives of the Council of Europe. Thus, with the exception of the Fourth Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition, only the conventions and protocols for which signature has been confirmed to the Treaty Office before the 14 September will be brought to Vienna.

  • First, the Austrian Minister of Justice signed on behalf of Austria the Second Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters. (ETS No. 182).
  • Albania, Armenia, Austria, Hungary, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden and Ukraine signed the Fourth Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition. (CETS No. 212).
  • Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania and Ukraine signed the Third Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition. (CETS No. 209)
  •  Armenia signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Counterfeiting of Medical Products and Similar Crimes involving Threats to Public Health. (CETS No. 211).
  • Iceland ratified the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. (CETS No. 201)
  • The Republic of Moldova signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Counterfeiting of Medical Products and Similar Crimes involving Threats to Public Health. (CETS No. 211).
  • Monaco signed the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. (CETS No. 210).
  • 13 September 2012, Argentina ratified the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters as amended by its 2010 Protocol. (ETS No. 127).
  • 11 September 2012, Switzerland signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism. (CETS No. 196).
  • Belgium signed the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. (CETS No. 210).

 

The Fourth Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition will be opened for signature on the occasion of the 31st Council of Europe Conference of Ministers of Justice, in Vienna, 20 September 2012, at 4.00pm, at the Hofburg Congress Centre.

On this occasion, participants duly authorized by their national authorities will also have the possibility to sign and/or to deposit the instruments of ratification of the Council of Europe conventions and protocols listed below:

  • Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (ETS No. 108) and its Additional Protocol regarding supervisory authorities and transborder data flows (ETS No. 181);
  • Second Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters (ETS No. 182);
  • Convention on Cybercrime (ETS No. 185) and its Additional Protocol concerning the criminalisation of acts of a racist and xenophobic nature committed through computer systems (ETS No. 189);
  • Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism (CETS No. 196);
  • Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (CETS No. 197);
  • Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (CETS No. 201);
  • European Convention on the Adoption of Children (Revised) (CETS No. 202).
  • Third Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Extradition (CETS No. 209);
  • Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (CETS No. 210);
  • Council of Europe Convention on the counterfeiting of medical products and similar crimes involving threats to public health (CETS No. 211);

The selection of these treaties has been made on the basis of the resolutions adopted at the 29th and 30th Conferences of Ministers of Justice (Tromsø and Istanbul) and of the proposals made by the Council of Europe steering committees involved in the preparation of the 31st Conference (CDPC, CDCJ and CDDH).
