We, the undersigned citizens of the world, call on the international Olympics Committee to rescind Israel’s participation in the London 2012 Olympics. Israel’s attack on a humanitarian aid fleet on Monday 31 May 2010, its murder of 9 human rights activists in international waters, and wounding many more, demonstrate that Israel rejects the structural tenets of our shared humanity, manifested in a global moral consensus and international law.

Israel was established on the ruins of another country, Palestine. In 1948 more than half the population of Palestine was uprooted from their cities and villages, 400 of which were completely destroyed. The state of Israel has never allowed Palestinian refugees to return and today their number has reached 7 million, many of whom are still stateless, living in refugee camps in Palestine and other Arab countries

Since its establishment the state of Israel has consistently violated international law. To date, it has defied 246 UN Security Council Resolutions. As a direct consequence, seven million Palestinians are excluded from the right to live on land internationally acknowledged to be theirs; and increasingly, they are being excluded from their right to any future at all as a nation. The 4 million Palestinians in the occupied territories have endured over 40 years of brutal occupation and denied even the most basic Human rights. The 1.4 million who remain in Israel are second class citizens.

The daily brutality of the Israeli army in Gaza and the West Bank continues; Palestinian land continues to be stolen, houses demolished and crops destroyed. For years now the state of Israel has been carrying out a slow genocide in the Gaza Strip, maintaining a tight blockade over its inhabitants and repeated bombing raids all of which are contrary to International Laws which prohibit collective punishment.

The Israeli military used white phosphorus munitions in the 2008-2009 Gaza war. The IDF acknowledged it’s use after the war ended.

Several reports from human right groups during the war indicated that white phosphorus shells were being used by Israel in violation of international law. Human Rights Watch said shells exploded over populated civilian areas, including a crowded refugee camp, a UN compound where food was stored, and a United Nations school where civilians were seeking refuge.

Human Rights Watch said its experts in the region had witnessed the use of white phosphorus. Kenneth Roth, the organisation’s executive director, added: “This is a chemical compound that burns structures and burns people. It should not be used in populated areas.”

Amnesty International said a fact-finding team found “indisputable evidence of the widespread use of white phosphorus” in crowded residential areas of Gaza City and elsewhere in the territory. Donatella Rovera, the head of an Amnesty fact-finding mission to southern Israel and Gaza, said: “Israeli forces used white phosphorus and other weapons supplied by the USA to carry out serious violations of international humanitarian law, including war crimes.”

“Israel’s policy on settlements is not only unlawful, it also impacts severely on the human rights of Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated by the constructions taking place on occupied Palestinian land,” said Malcolm Smart, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa director.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu and other prominent South Africans have likened the situation of the Palestinians to apartheid for which South Africa were banned from international sporting events including the Olympic Games.

The challenge of apartheid was fought with the non-violent international response of a campaign of boycott, divestment, and sanctions. Today Palestinian artists, trade unionists, teachers, writers, film-makers and non-governmental organisations have called for a comparable boycott of Israel, as offering another path to a just peace, saying, “ At a time when the international movement to isolate Israel is gaining ground in response to the escalation of Israel’s violently colonial and racist policies, we respectfully urge conscientious organisations, sportsmen, academics, artists and intellectuals from around the world, including those who visit [or host Israeli’s from] the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT), to refrain from visiting [or hosting] Israel to participate in any event or encounter that is not explicitly dedicated to ending Israel’s illegal occupation and other forms of oppression.

Ban Israel from the London 2012 Olympics.

Regardless of intentions, such visits only contribute to the prolongation of injustice by normalizing and thereby legitimizing it, and inadvertently support Israel’s efforts to appear as a “normal” participant in the “civilized” world of sport, science, scholarship and art while at the same time practising a pernicious form of apartheid against Palestinians.” This call has been endorsed by some brave Israeli dissidents and many prominent international figures.

Boycott is a tactic which allows people, as distinct from their elected governments, to apply pressure on those wielding power in an unjust way. It is directed not against people but against oppressive and unjust policies and regimes in order to bring about change. I would also remind you that Principle 2 of the Olympic Charter declares the principles of Olympism to “place sport at the service of the harmonious development of man, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity”.

Also principle 5 which states “Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.” Clearly the acts of genocide against Palestinians and the forcing out by the illegal expansion of the settlements is a violation of this principle. By your own words in Principle 6 “Belonging to the Olympic Movement requires compliance with the Olympic Charter and recognition by the IOC.” As Israel are not compliant how can they then participate under the current conditions that Palestinians are faced with? Particularly considering that “The name of an NOC must reflect the territorial extent and tradition of its country…” However many Israelis are living on disputed land and therefore Israeli athletes cannot be considered to be from the legitimate territorial extent of their country.

Contrary to Olympic Charter bye-laws stating “No kind of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda is permitted in any Olympic sites, venues or other areas” you will; by allowing Israel to participate and not taking a stand against their racist policies; be implicitly supporting war crimes, ethnic cleansing, dispossession, and continued oppression of the Palestinian people, a people seeking to end the silence of the international community and achieve a just peace. The Israeli politicians and citizens see every visit to and from Israel as an act of support for their policies. Every cancellation is a reminder to them that all is not well and that there will be a price for the ongoing oppression and the indifference for rights of Palestinians.

If you require more information about the situation in Israel and the Occupied Territories, organisations such as Amnesty International, the World Health Organisation and the Israeli human rights organisation B’Tselem have published detailed reports.

We feel sure that, in the light of the information available, you would not wish to lend support – however indirect and implicit – to Israel’s policies, by allowing them to attend and participate in such a high profile event that aims to be “a force for good”.

Israel is one of the terrorist countries that cause most of the problems in the world.
Israeli people are part of this terror because they support this policy, and serve in the army that commit war crimes. Those soldiers must be led to jail & put for trail.

  • Karl Hanson

The world should stop against Israeli aggression against Palestinians & Lebanese people.
The palestinians in Gaza & the west bank are living in a big Israeli jail in the world.
The world & Americans should stop this Israeli tyranny against humanity.

  • Gerald Sills

This ban should also include South Africa and Zimbabwe for their murder of White citizens, and their confiscation of White owned farms. How about banning Muslims nations that kill women for minor crimes? No end to the Communist/Fascist rhetoric that occupies much of the discussion on this website. I want to sympathize with your problems, however many of you make it difficult for real dialogue, and the silly focus on little Israel. Let’s include all the different nations into this comparison and ban those who do not meet our qualification.

    • It is not “little israel” but 62 years of occupation, plunder, mass murder, genocide. And I find my focus on that cloaca actually very smart, and not “silly”.

    • Frank

“This ban should also include South Africa and Zimbabwe for their murder of White citizens, and their confiscation of White owned farms.”

Why do ‘concerned’ white people only bring this up when discussing Africa? You do know that there’s an ongoing genocide against black Africans being carried out across pretty much the entire continent, right?

Yes, the killings should stop, and the hatred should stop. But Europeans have been oppressing Africa for centuries. So obviously they are very angry at whites, and understandably so. I mean, just think. How would you feel if you were treated like dirt in your own homeland? None of this would’ve happened in the first place if Europe and the rest of the world had just left Africa and her people alone.

  • John

They need to be ostracized until they learn to behave in a civilized manner. The cultural and economic boycott of South Africa caused them to stop their apartheid. The world needs to boycott Israel in the same manner, until the Palestinians are included and recognized as equal citizens with equal rights.

  • josef

I approve of an Olympic Boycott on that shitty little country on the eastern seaboard of the Mediterranean. Btw, it is also a Nuclear Rogue State as well. A boycott is legal, instructional, and thoroughly acceptable to a world population. After all, these evil creatures have an “Kill Olympics” against women-children-old people, where the objective is eventual extermination, each and every day.

  • Mike

Israel is illegal … biblically, ethically and morally.
there is ONLY one way Israel can exist … ONLY one … by way of mending the covenant.
lands were left to the Israelites … WHO ARE THE 12 tribes … NOT just the jews.

Israel lies, cheats, steals and murders to get what it wants.

  • oh ma sheriff

just get rid of the olympics altogether, it’s a load of crap anyway

  • Jeffrey

And all the world also needs to boycott all Islamic theocratic countries that heads all non beleivers, check out http://thereligionofpeace.com/ and enslaves all Christians in the meantime,Kewatha, you and your site is a joke!!!

  • Lew Conast

So who do you think will finance it?

  • Nick

I WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO SEE A POLL ON THIS !

  • geraldo

I need to qualify the sentiments in this article with one thing: It is the US Jews who finance Israel’s atrocities and allow American soldiers to die in Israel’s dirty wars; Wouldn’t it be more effective if the US would be banned from the 2012 Olympics in addition to Israel? When the Olympic Committee chose to ignore the US from hosting the 2012 Olympics, the US got egg on its face, and banning the US from competing also would send the message that it is a world pariah unless it stops financing terror.

  • Israel is a terror state if Europeans and Americans love them so much give part of your country for me Palestine always be Palestine

  • carl

That won’t happen because P. charles thinks he is jewish and that is because his mother is of the loins of winston churchill who thought he was jewish because his mother was jewish but not his father. Go to Gen. 3:14-15 and you will understand who wrote the talmud and these are the ones that hated the Lord God for what he prophesied to the serpent who was back then…(ezek. ch 31 . The minsters, the shepherds of the flock, and these priests of On are doing the devils work, whether they know it or not, and are not telling the people the truth.

  • Absolutely ban “Israel” from the Olympics and all civilized gatherings of all sorts. In fact, ban “Israel!”

Free Palestine!! And the whole region from Rabat to Islamabad

“Little Israel” has absolute control of the USA and the banking system of most western nations. Israel also has 400 known nuclear weapons and I suppose the 1,000 that were officially acknowledged as missing from the former Soviet Union. Poor little Israel, victims of world wide antisemitism, might one destroy us all.

  • Rabbit

Geraldo, banning Israel from the Olympics, which I support and have signed for, would lead to the USA boycotting the Olympics the next day after that was announced anyway. That way we get a two for the price of one result.

Obviously Israel would not return the favour if the USA was banned, even if on their behalf.

    • Nearby in Cyprus

Fine theory Rabbit but it would be turned on it’s head by the whores who work in the mainstream news networks.

  • It would be unfair to penalize Israeli athletes for the actions of the Israeli government. I have no doubt that these athletes if they were born in another country and could qualify to compete for that other country would carry forward the same level of pride at being capable of competing at the top level.
It would make more sense to appeal to the best Israeli athletes to make a stand against their own government by refusing to enter the competitive stream. This would leave the inferior athletes to compete for Israel and Israel would be embarrassed by a dismal performance.
The Israeli athletes who refused to compete would be just as highly regarded by the world as they would have been had they won a gold medal. Perhaps more so. There could even be a form of reverse corporate sponsorship to reward the “refuseniks” (as the might be called).
Until the issue of religion as shown at whatisknown.com is dealt with there will be no peace in the world. The myth of jews as chosen people of a god has been the cause of untold misery and the world must learn that this is indeed only a myth.

    • Sam

Are not All Israeli citizens called up for duty in the army.
Athletes end up in the military some time or another.
I bet there are not many who would become refuseniks becuase
they would lose some sponsorship or other support.
You don’t see “self hating” Jews get a mention unless they were in trouble with the state or thier so-called justice system.

    • Nearby in Cyprus

Are you perhaps assuming that these athletes are in the 6% of the population of the country who created Molten Lead (except it was phosphorus) for the benefit of the residents in a corner of what was Palestine less than a single lifetime ago?
If you are, I imagine that the level of courage required in the face of the expected retaliation they and their extended family would face would be overwhelmed. They are not as generous morally as Olympics Athletes are imagined to be – but – I am praying that I’ll be proven wrong. Statistically, according to the poll, these same athletes attending the games are more than 9:1 likely to have engaged in carrying out the instructions to do what they did in Gaza, at the checkpoints and even on the Marmari gate-crash for a romantic coffee & bikis under the stars and just in time to see the dawn one morning a few weeks ago. I hope these best atheletes you have in mind will materialize but I worry that they might only be considered to be the best t-shirt designers

    • oliver

Unfair, indeed??? Do you remember back in 1980 where the USA boycotted the Olympic Games in Moscow. Do you also remember why? Well it was due to the fact that Russia (then still Sowjet Union) invaded AFGHANISTAN (sounds familiar?) Well, America was in such an outrage that it punished their athletes by banning them from the games… Everybody was cheering back then… Just think about it.

      • Nearby in Cyprus

Thanks for reminding me of that display of the USofA moral indignation in support of Afghanistan and the publicity in support of human rights

The universe is too well formed for there not to be a right way for everything that is done.
What happens here, every unjust and just act will be met by justice. Is this not understood?
Are they going to dictate to the one that everything belongs to?
Do they think the arguments they present to us are going to convince the source of all?

As a proud Australian I wish to send my contempt to both Israel(illegal nuclear power) and America as their supporters. Our country has stood by America through all the major wars of the twentieth century. This includes our proud indiginess Australians and our countrymen in New Zealand. We did not sacrafice our loved ones lives to see our pinacle of morals the good old USA fall and curtail to an evall equivalent to the Nazis. What has happened to our moral leader. Boycott Israel and be strong Palestine. The world grows bigger every day and you are Not alone

  • Peter Wat

Well said Paddy. The world showed South Africa what people power can do. We saw riots in Queensland and we saw change in South Africa.

Kawther I think this website has some of the best articles and I would like to see it linked at even more internet sites.
My opinion is in agreement with the vast majority of the commentators. An Olympics boycott is not an impossibility because of the gross atrocities -so far- since the previous Olympics were held.
People’s awareness is growing and a boycott would shine a light on the despicable nation carved out of Palestine in 1948 by those who won the so-called WWII.

  • Sean

The palestinians and israeli people are scapegoats in a political struggle for the new world order agenda to commit mass genocide between the muslim and jewish/christians. Just part and parcel of eugenics and culling the world population(you and I)down to a more managable level.
Media & policy is being used to create hate between people to divide them and cause war for profitable means…..
The land that Israel occupies has always been theirs, just study history. If people were so bothered about palestinian people then why don’t they allow palestinian refugees into their own countries….?
    Why?
Its because its to exasperate the problem through political means….
Its not the people but the governments that cause the problems and the governments are run by the rich banking elite of the world!
Until we unite as one people and rise up against war and all the other injustice in the world we will be dictated to by these people who run everything and cause this misery.

    • oliver

First of all there are plenty countries in the world who do accommodate Palestinian refugees. It would all be for the purpose of Israel if these refugees would just go and hopefully never come back. Hence it is vital to support the Palestinians in their homeland. And yes, I did study history and thats exactly why I have to comment here… History has always been written by the conquerors, go figure… I completely agree with your last sentence though…

    • Frank

“The land that Israel occupies has always been theirs, just study history. ”

Wrong. Askenazi Jews, who make up over 90% of world Jewry, are not native to the Middle East. They are of Eastern European and Central Asian blood. They have more to do with Southern Russia than anywhere else.

Sephardi Jews, on the other hand, do have a connection with the Middle East that goes back centuries in many cases. But this extremely small group isn’t the one pushing Zionism. Zionism is wholly a creation of the Askenazim, and the Askenazim don’t even like other groups of Jews.

As for the the ancient Hebrews, they were a primitive backwords ‘tribe’ that was basically the laughingstock of that time. Even they were not really a distinct group, which is why they had to institute the practice of circumcision to make themselves physically stand out. They were a mixture of the people who were around them -slaves, runaways, drifters, etcs. It wasn’t until about 1000 BCE or so that they finally banded together under the banner of a primitive form of Judaism. But they were never as powerful as the Bible depicts, nor was whatever kingdom they had ever that grand.

I do agree that ‘divide and conquer’ has to do with it, as well.

    • mcmn

“..by these people who run everything and cause this misery.”

Go and study real history and find out who “these people” are.

  • Elvin Diablo

WHOA! Wait a minute! How about banning the most heinous mass murdering country in the WORLD…the United States of America.

  • geraldo

As an ex-South African who grew up in another apartheid country,S.A., I recall being the pariah of the world; We couldn’t even travel to any other part of Africa (including Egypt–the irony!!Egypt today supports the Gaza prison system); Almost no celebrities or cultural institutions ever travelled to S.A.and we were reviled in most of the world sports arenas. BDS DOES work: Boycott all products that are made or sent to Israel (that includes Starbucks, Coca Cola), divestment and sanctions all work. Being banned in sports DOES work especially psychologically, and Israel IS a pariah, as well as its puppet financier the US. I have European friends who refuse to travel to the US because of Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • morris Wise

Israel is the loudest voice against Islamic expansionism, once Israels voice is silenced the dreams of a worldwide caliphate will become a reality. Women will be circumcised and be forced to hide their faces. Men will lose their voices except when howling god is great.

    • mcmn

oh yeah, sounds like the end of the world.

    • Nearby in Cyprus

Okay, so the justification for killing Palestinian women is to save them from circumcision.
But I have a question: How come the one’s still breathing are not given a choice?

  • XYZ

Until all of us wont wake up from this death slumber, nothing will happen. Internet petitions = 0. Action is everything. Israel will keep doing his shit without ever being stopped. BTW this parasitic country also takes part in the Eurovision contest for years. Even the name of the contest says i EUROVISION, so it means that European countries and the European part of Turkey participate. Israel is not in Europe or is it the new geography?

  • Faisal UK

As a human being, a British subject and a Muslim, I hold any blind anti Jewish statements as immoral and wrong, please do not blame the an entire( in this case Jewish) people for the actions of a few fanatics, be they Jews, Muslims, Christians or whomever. To any Muslim that hates Jews, remember that all your prophets except the last two, were practicing Judaism. Palestine is a territorial and humanitarian issue, religion has been hijacked to further the bloodshed. Israel is an illegal, immoral state, but the people living there are human beings and NOT to blame for this.

  • Tim

Exactly, doesn,t matter what race, color, religion or nationality,we are all human beings just trying to take care of our own.The people in power are the problem.

  • Patsy

I agree with so many of the comments here – Israel should be banned from the 2012 olympics – and the olympics can be banned too as far as I’m concerned.
The political elite at the top who are causing all the trouble should be banned from the planet!!

Isreal needs to be bannned from the Games. Thank you for this article. I was at my local museum recently to see the Dead Sea Scrolls travelling exhibit. There, I witness a pararell between the Chinese and Jewish communities. That similarity was the sick sad fact and irony that mainlanders don’t do as well at the Great Library of Alexandria (eg. able to read the ancient publications dating before 500 AD.) as their overseas or outlining territory counterparts of the same ethnic community – a mark of a legimate ruler. It is very obvious that Isreal is one of these countries that act more like colonies than independent countries, meaning while it is militarily and legally independent, when one looks at the nitty gritty of its internal affairs, it isn’t so socially, economically, or otherwise. This is in very strong contrast to a few other places like Taiwan where the opposite is true: Taiwan is a mostly independent nation that is nevertheless under miltary colonialism of the US since 1949.

  • Aaron Maple

I think simpy boycotting the 2012 Olympic Games would be a more effective protest – don’t turn up, don’t take part, stay home, stay awaym don’t get involved….because you now who runs the Olympic Games……
