Over 13 Honor Killings in Two Months in Palestine

Seven women were killed in the Palestinian territories because of “honor killings” in the first month of the year 2010. These news were released by Palestinian human rights organizations interested in women’s issues, but according to my sources, this statistic was falsified and the real number of women who were murdered, only in the cities of Ramallah and Hebron since the beginning of the year 2010 has exceeded 13. The sources confirm that these seven women, who were registered in the statistics of human rights organizations as victims of “honor killing”, were left in public streets and in fields after being killed and there was no chance for the perpetrators to hide the crime.

My journalistic sources stated that other murdered women were taken by their criminal relatives, the perpetrators, to hospitals where these crimes were registered as natural death and other fabricated reasons. In all these cases, the Palestinian Authority covered up the crimes because of the interference of the relatives of the victims, who work in the institutions of the Palestinian National Authority and its security systems.

These dangerous statements about the victims of “honor killings” under the Palestinian National Authority have set a record of “honor killings” when compared with what happened under the Israeli occupation and before Abbas.

The Palestinians believe that the reason for the high numbers of “honor killings” has to do with the policies of the Palestinian Authority and the exploitation of the women who work in its institutions, women who are abused sexually by superiors and co-workers, putting their lives in big danger due to the tradition of honor killings in traditional Palestinian society.

The Palestinian newspapers report only one or two miserable sentences about such crimes. Al-Quds, the largest newspaper, usually publishes reports such as the following examples: “In the town of Tubas, a woman (A-KH) of age 36 was found murdered under mysterious circumstances, the body was found near the squatter colonist Mikhola near Tubas”; “In Tarqumiya near Hebron, a woman (K-A) of age 24 was found dead under mysterious circumstances”; “The body of D-S of age 37 from the village of Burkin near Jenin was found in a well”; “The woman (W-G) from Hebron was found dead, the preliminary investigations show that she killed herself”.

The Palestinian Authority applies the Jordanian Penal Code in the West Bank towns. The Jordanian law is considered as a discriminatory law, it reduces the penalty for the murderer when he perpetrates his crime under the pretext of “issues of honor”.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas promised last year that he would change this shameless law by the International Women’s Day of 2010. But it is seems to be that President Abbas has swallowed his words, as he didn’t change the law. The International Women’s Day passed and there were over 13 women murdered in Palestine under the presence of the PA. Abbas and friends just don’t care.

Unfortunately, the highly armored character structure of the Palestinians only serves to further the ambitions of the Chosen Few. Time to let go of trying to control the sexuality of others. If your honor has been offended, please consider killing yourself first.

  • Honor killing is not allowed in the Old Testament (the Holy prophets) and not in the New Testament (the Holy Injil) and not in the Holy Qur’an. This is a reversion to pagan infidelity and is the most evil murder and offensive in the most extreme to God and people. We all are born of a mother. No one who is sane could possibly consider killing women. It must be ended NOW and FOREVER.

Are their any men without sin? Let them cast the first stone. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of Jah.

Well, while Israel is wrong, it is a matter of who kills their women first, their own relatives or the Israelis. I don’t understand if there is such hatred of women in the Moslem world, why don’t they just exterminate them outright and then they won’t have to deal with women anymore at all.

    What, was I censored?

  • These killings show, in a sad way, that the traditional frames of men and women shift, despite traditional religious and social contexts. Of course, mindframes, say in Nigeria and Sweden, are different – but we are obviosly witnessing a global process, where men are discovering their “female” qualities like sympathy, gentleness, broader interests, while women want to be successsful in their studies and professions – and not just sticking to the household, having 5-10 children. Mankind still is, as a species, in a process of evolution, out of the “animal kingdom”. But it takes time, and suffering.

Nothing to be proud of. It shows the PA is incapable of having law and order that protects citizen and women rights and their only concern are the rights and safety of Israeli settlers and soldiers. The Zionist war gangs knew “honor” as a weak point in Arab and Muslim societies and made a good use of it to drive tens of thousands of Palestinians from their homes in advance of the Zionist terrorist’s gangs. One has to wonder why after 45 years of the PLO existence it failed to have its own civil and criminal laws and continues to apply Jordanian laws in the West Bank and Egyptian laws in Gaza. What kind of government is this? Where is Hanan Ashrawi from all of this? Or did she give up every thing up once she joined the PLO executive committee? Where are the women groups and civil societies from all of this? It seems the honor of an “Arab” lies in between women legs. Great.

What does Honor have to do with Homosexuality or ‘Theory’ some might ask…but surely, it’s not religion…

Kawther you are a brave reporter.

This is a scandal and a humanitarian disaster. Where are Amnesty International, the UN Human Rights Commission and the UN Secretary General?

The media have devoted thousands of column inches to the assassination of a terrorist and murderer in Dubai. Perhaps if they turned their attention to investigating the deaths of these 13 poor women, they might be doing humanity a much better service.

The fact that this is happening under Abbas and he is doing nothing to stop it is very concerning. Shaking hands with world leaders in endless photo opportunity shots obviously leaves him no time to take every possible step to stop and outlaw this barbaric and pernicious practice.

I hope you maintain the courage to follow up on this article.

  • This is disturbing, I really am sorry to read this, it is unjustified crime.
Frustration, pressure, spiritless jobless and weakness are gifts from the democratic occupation of Israeli regime, which reflects upon the Palestinian personality, making him wants to show his toughness, power, fearless and furies upon others includes his family!

But this is not an excuse to commit such a crime, I believe we need to work on educate our youth to control their anger to where it belongs.

  • Talal

When did this all begin? Are some of our people bent upon moving towards infantcide (again)? I hope this is an issue all the palestinian revolutionaries are taking up whether they be Hamas or Al Aqsa Martyr Brigades or some group of youth updating the resistance. This is an important issue and if personalities and average people cannot stand up for justice on this issue they will not be able to fully resist the destruction of Palestine. Sallam. Honor crimes are acts of violence, usually murder, committed by male family members against female family members, who are held to have brought dishonor upon the family. A woman can be targeted by (individuals within) her family for a variety of reasons, including: refusing to enter into an arranged marriage, being the victim of a sexual assault, seeking a divorce—even from an abusive husband—or (allegedly) committing adultery. The mere perception that a woman has behaved in a way that “dishonors” her family is sufficient to trigger an attack on her life.

Conclusion: The act of murder, or killing, is as barbaric as the cults that instill such beliefs. “Thou shall not kill” should have international consequences as all belief systems are invalid due to the fact that one’s personal perception of himself is no better than another’s due to the fact he has been brainwashed, propagandized, and socially manipulated.

Likewise, one cannot disown a child, as it is inherently connected spiritually, physically, and genetically.

Therefore, disapproval of another’s action is the most that exist legally, within a family and prudent minds need to protect those who cannot protect themselves because of “Belief Systems and Social Perception Structures”.

The arab leaders have done nothing real to stop the practice of honour killing around the arab world, they dont give a damn about the rights women have been given by God himself. Dont expect the PA to make any positive change as they are simply an offshot of the rest of the arab puppet dictator regimes hence they only make changes that will benefit themselves or their reputation. If Joe biden would tell Abbas to change the law then he would do it to show him he is a good puppet or to be seen as a moderate and not because he actually cares.

What is needed is not only a law change but a huge campaign against the honour killings in the villages in the Arab world as not much will change before the mentality that can be found in arab/Pakistani/Indian/Albanian/Turkish/Kurdish/other areas changes.

the Muslim woman is controlled by the man ever since she was born until she dies , she has no right to do what she likes and that is the man who govern her life including her sexual life
If a woman refuses to obey her father and mother or brother then there is a high risk that she be killed
Honor killings are just in the Muslim countries , The man want to have control over female sexuality
What is permissible for the man is forbidden for a woman , About 1,000 women are murdered each year and is alleged to have relationships with men , many of those killed by their fathers or brothers
The Muslim woman can also be killed when she refuses to marry someone she does not want , She has no right to choose her husband but is forced by her family to the man of their choice
Sometimes the woman can be raped by her family and then murdered , Relatives call this also for honor killings
The laws that exist in Muslim countries gives the man all the rights to kill the woman if there is only a suspicion
If the woman tries to assert her self then she will be murdered too
Woman’s life in Muslim countries are in the hands of the man , The man can do what he wants
This is a major disease in the Muslim world , I find it hard to believe that it is possible to cure this disease
